"Zipppy, Mazdurp builder, Probeski owner and former ricerboy" (zipppyart)

Ever since I saw Mighty Car Mods build Gramps (and Supergramps), and one of my professors at college making a twin turbo S10, I’ve just thought what I would do if I were to make my own.
So the idea is to get a previous generation Colorado/Canyon (I chose 5 cylinder mainly for the sound, but 6 still works, I prefer the 5 cylinder warble), harvest a turbo from a larger truck (probably a Cummins diesel) a decent intercooler (could also be pulled), and tune it for a reliable and wide power band on low boost pressure (under 10 PSI), because internals are stock at that point, and reliability is a concern, Forged internals would come when the ‘next level’ would be reached. I am well aware it has been done before, it’s better than just going the ‘easy way’.
What you guys think?

sounds like a solid plan, would you go for 4wd or 2?

Either or, I’m on the fence.

I like where this is headed. I say grab a 4WD Canyon and make a Neo-Syclone.

They didn't get a 6 cylinder. 4,5,8 are your stock choices.

I had the thought of that in the back of my mind.

That said if you want the 6 cylinder, it resides in the Trailblazer.

They can also be boosted... It almost makes me miss my parents Trailblazer, but everything else...

2jz swapped Canyon... less budget friendly but it’d be awesome.

I feel swaps are like cheating.

I realize it’d be the more readily available (and likely cheaper) way of procuring a turbocharger, but do you think one from a Cummins diesel (from a Ram truck, I presume) would be a good choice?
I’m no expert, but I wonder if a turbo from a 5.9L diesel would spool up well on a 3.7L gasoline engine.
That said, I’m all for a boosted 5-pot Canyorado. And now you have me kinda wishing I got the Colorado I was looking at instead of the Sierra I have now.

my thought is that the turbo is meant to spool from an engine going at a lower RPM, since it’s a diesel, typically those don’t need much air compared to a high revving engine. I would have to calculate how much air each engine moves at certain RPMs just to be sure.
